i want to delete windows xp and reinstall windows 98 se on a hard drive converted to ntfs. ive got a startup disk and this loads with cd rom support selected. i then put the windows cd in and type d:/setup then it says it will check system, press enter. then when i press enter it detects ntfs and says i must create a ms dos boot partition. How i do this

From your startup disk type FDISK which will allow you to :-

1. Delete the NTFS Partition

2. Create a new FAT32 Partition.

You will then need to use FORMAT to format the new partition.

After formatting as advised by cga, go into BIOS and set your CD drive as first boot device insert the 98se CD, reboot and it will self boot from there, just follow the on-screen instructions to install.
