I cannot use ADD?REMOVE on my windows 98 because it does not show the files. Anyone knows how this happened and how to get it functioning again please ?

Try click here

Or, failing which the ones below (though they don't specifically mention Win98):

- From click here:

1. Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD

2. At the prompt, type REGSVR32 APPWIZ.CPL

Reboot after the above (even though it doesn't specify this) & try again.

If there's an error message after doing the above it probably isn't possible in Win98.

- Also see click here & click here. G

The last link above actually concerns this problem exactly - "Windows 95/98: Add/Remove Program applet list is empty" - but the fix doesn't appear simple as registry editing is necessary.

Thoroughly acquaint yourself with 'Backing Up And Restoring Your Registry In Windows 98' click here before doing anything. G

Choose Shut Down, and Choose Shut Down to DOS. then type

Scanreg /Restore.

Use arrow keys and choose the oldest date to Restore. You will only have five to choose from

Woodchip's suggestion is the simplest way, but depends on the fault being very recent.

PS if the one above does not do it try SFC in the Run Box

sfc in 98?

  Sea Urchin 22:27 31 Oct 07

Yes, we have sfc in Win98, but not sfc /scannow

ty for correction.

Your best bet, is as you can get into windows, put the Win98se CD in the drive and run setup from there it will over write files. First disable your AntiVirus

PS you will not lose any of your Files, It only loads Win98 over it's self
