Windows 98 won't let me get into the following >

Come back to my computer and Win98 will not let me do much like open any thing in Control panel like Add/Remove prog's, Disk Cleanup, No access to device manager and more only place I can get is in the C Drive.

Message comes up "Access bto the specified device, path, or file is denied" in a dialouge box.

This even happen to access right click to enter the Properties for Desktop,Screen saver VGA settings, just won't let me in.

Also noticed Things like MS Word, Outlook express and lots of other files all seem to have .INK on the end of the name in the list of programmes.

Is this a Virus or a fairly badly damaged win98 ?

Looks like I am going to loose 3 years of my MP3's and CV's etc.

scanreg/fix

Will try that, just running a virus scann with Norton CD in MS Doss.

I managed to use SFC in Safe mode - Windows but nothing much apart from setup.d?? was to replaced.

scanreg/fix will be done next.

Checked out MS Kb had file access for programme and that wasn't it.

Thanks Madboy33, will report back.

It's scanreg /fix - note the space.

It worked without the space between scanreg & /
but it was unable to repiar due to HDD error.

Now wiped HDD.

But thanks for info on the path !.

" Looks like I am going to loose 3 years of my MP3's and CV's etc."

No backup?
