windows 98 no longer safe?

  louishughes 12:41 14 Jul 06

is it safe to continue using windows 98, now that miscrosoft are no longer supporting this OS?

  rmcqua 12:53 14 Jul 06

Yes, quite safe, given the usual A/V and anti-spyware precautions. I can't imagine the malware developers spending too much effort targeting WIN98.

.....and a decent firewall.

Most security updates are to plug holes in IE6 and Media player, use alternatives like Firefox click here , Opera click here Winamp click here and/or Jetaudio click here All these are still supported by their suppliers.

While it's OK create a Image with a program such as Acronis True Image. And it does not matter how many nasties etc that get on your drive the Image can wipe them all away. But you have to backup you personel file like Doc photos E-mail as you use the comp as when you use the Image you only get back as and when you create the Image

The latest zonealarm upgrade doesn't support Win98 either

I think the only thing you need worry about is people hurting themselves when they fall over laughing because you've actually admitted to still using Win 98. ;-))

  Totally-braindead 21:22 14 Jul 06

Is it still safe? Yes.
