Windows 98 freezes (again!)

  bdub 17:30 10 Mar 03

So we are back again. My old mums computer freezes after asking it to do just about anything.
I have got her to do the following:
SFC,Defrag, disabling all programmes and bringing them back one at a time, device manager for conflicts.

I now deduce 1 Memory or 2 Hdd or 3 Mobo or 4 processor. Any ideas ?

I am driving 150 miles to look at it tomorrow.

(It is 1 year old Duron 900,win98 se,loads of memory,no programmes except office, photoshop and avg antivirus and has been ok)

When you say there is loads of memory, check that the computer does not have more than 512MB as Windows 98 does connot use more than than this.

Try using Norton Utilities, I know it costs money but it's better than a 300 mile round trip.

Just a thought but going back to basics - could it be overheating? Is there plenty of space around and particularly above the tower?
