I now have 98se installed! - linksys card now says (during installation) that IE 5.5 or later is needed (I have 5.0) - I have downloaded version 6 and am trying to install that over 5.0 (rather than delete version 5 ) - but it says files missing from installation directory etc - I am not much of an expert on w98 se - any ideas as I am getting frustrated!

Perhaps you have a corrupt download of IE6, hence the files missing from the installation directory.

How EXACTLY are you trying to install IE6?

I have downoaded ie6 from click here

and have transfered to usb stick and transfer from there to laptop - if not how can i update from ie 5 to ie 5.5 or later - I have tried windows update but that does not work either - any thoughts

Follow the instructions at click here to download the full set of files from MS.

Make sure you select the OS for the destination PC when prompted.

curious to know why the win 98se came with only the version 5.0?

I am more than curious - annoyed!! - prior to windows 98se installation it had a later version - now has 5.0!!

and what was on it os wise before?

did you get any further with this?

IE5 is a Win95b and Win98 not Win98se. It did not update IE when he put the 98se in and ran it

Try click here - please note that this is the whole thing, not just a service pack.
