Windows 8 beta installation

I downloaded Windows 8 Beta, Expecting it to dual boot with Windows 7. Installing Windows 8 it seemed to me to be overwriting Windows 7, because it asked me if I wanted to keep all my Windows settings. I cancelled the installation as I don’t want to loose Windows 7. Is my assumption correct?, would I have lost my Windows 7?

Depends, if you told W8 Developer preview (it is not a Beta yet it is still in development stage) to install on the same partition as you have your W7 installed then yes it would overwrite it. Have you read the article pca link on the right of this page 'How to download and try W8 for free'

You have to point the install to an empty partition if you want to dual boot.

Ozy, to get the dual-boot option you're looking for you'll need to boot your PC from the Windows 8 DVD.

If you're launching setup whilst still in Windows then upgrade is the only option.

Did you boot from the W8 DVD that you burnt or did you run the DVD from within W7?
