Windows 7 Search Facility gone missing

  Taupe 14:37 28 Sep 11

Folder Options are now only 2, namely General and View.

The 3rd tab 'Search' has disappeared, with the result that none of the Windows Explorer pages carry a Search box and neither does the Start button, which offers simply 'Programs' as its bottom item instead of the Search box.

Going back through the restore options has had no effect.

Any suggestions for retrieving the Search facility, please?

Did you disable it in "Windows Programs and Features"?

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on of off. Now tick the "Windows Search" box.

That was a very quick and effective response! 'Search' is now re-enabled.

I have no recollection of disabling 'Search' though I did 'pause' the indexing function (as I understood for 15 minutes) whilst I edited a confidential document some days ago. That was because a couple of years ago I typed up a pass word list and was afterwards disturbed to find that deep in its memory the PC had retained a copy in an unencrypted state!

Very good of you to be so helpful - Thank you.

Incidentally, when you feel the need for a fresh pseudonym perhaps 'cogniscent' would be a good choice!

Glad to have helped even though I did nothing more than Google your problem, then post a couple of possible solutions.
