Windows 7 freezing

Hi all. I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 on my PC. The system freezes regularly at no specific point. The screen looks fine but the cursor cannot be moved by mouse or keyboard. The only way out is to press the reset key; not even Task Manager can be accessed. Sometimes after the reset the date and time are incorrect. Any ideas please? It's driving me nuts!

Motherboard: Asus M4A78T-E. Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965. 4Gb RAM. Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5450. Two SATA hard drives. Two SATA optical drives.

If the time and date are changing then it could be a CMOS battery problem, some programmes do not like an incorrect date. I would suggest that the first thing you try is to change the CMOS battery - the board is a couple of years old.
