Windows 7

Hi. I'm in the learning curve with W7 and have two problems that I need help with please.

1. My desktop icons when I place the curser on them, have a 1 inch transparent square around them. How do I get rid of the square ?

When scrolling, a small oblong box appears with the curser and has up/down arrows ..sorry to sound vague... It clears itself when I move the curser again ?

Thank you for any help

1, I think that is the norm, just a highlight. I don't know if you can cut it out.
2,That sounds like your mouse, I don't think it is a problem with Win7

Are you pressing down on the wheel when scrolling?

HI rawprawn and thanks for coming back. I have got the Toshiba C660-1KT which has scroll pad that seems to have mind of its own ! I think you could right about the highlighted icons and am none the wiser yet on how to rectify the oblong problem.

Do you run Windows 7 and are you happy with it?

After years with trouble free XP I suppose I have been spoilt.

Thanks sunnystaines. I think it must be a Hotkey issue

Yes, I run Windows 7 and I think it is the best OS I have used, including XP.
You only need an AV such as Avast Free, and Win 7 Firewall. There is no need for extra firewalls such as Zone Alarm.
