after a serious fault I had to load a new copy of Windows XP. It would only load half way then seized. I loaded another copy which went in fine but now I have the good copy and the faulty copy and windows always asks me which copy I want to open. Is there any way I can get rid of the faulty copy?

Perhaps you have hidden files hidden. Go to Explorer>tools>folder options>view and uncheck protected operating system files and check show hidden files etc
