can i down grade to windows ME then upgrade to windows XP without loosing all my data?
if so how?

  mattyc_92 16:34 15 Jul 05

I don't think you can...

Why do you want to do this for? You can upgrade Win2k to WinXP

  will123 16:37 15 Jul 05

i cant, so i need to install my ppurchased version of ME and my purchased version of XP and get rid of my version of 2k, withot loosing all my data, but that sucks, sure there is no way

You can't downgrade from W2000 or upgrade if you want to install WXP you will have to remove the none DOS partition just stick a WME floppy in and choose without cd rom support on the A:\ prompt type fdisk and delete the none dos partition then install WXP this will format the drive for you.
ALL DATA WILL BE LOST, sorry that is worst of running W2000 you can't upgrade.

You can only upgrade to XP Professional, not Home.

  will123 17:19 15 Jul 05

ok cheapest place to buy professional?
and if i do upgrade do i loose data?

  mattyc_92 17:21 15 Jul 05

No you don't lose any data if you upgrade, but you should backup your files just incase you run into trouble.

You can get an "OEM" version of Windows for about £50 if you buy some hardware from the same vendor. I can't remember any off hand, but many other members will.

Thanks VOG didn't know you could do that.

Sorry will123 for using your thread.

If you upgrade you SHOULD not lose data - but you would if the upgrade failed. Therefore you should backup anything critical before starting. I also suggest that you actually read the article that I posted.
