Window Messenger vs MSN Messenger

Sorry for what is probably a really dumb question but what is the difference between these two or are they actually the same?
If they are different can one connect (by voice) to the other?
I'll try to think of a better question next time, but thanks for the moment.

I dont think there is really any difference betwen the two apart from the fact that microsoft can make checks on your computer when you are connected to the internet through windows mesenger. I think that you can use windows with msn messenger without any problems

It seems that Windows messenger is an integral part of XP and Outlook Express. I downloded MSN Messenger and it ran ok but did clash with the other one at times ( not disastrously, just annoyingly) Seems you can only have one or the other active at any one time. So I've decided to stay with Windows messenger.
