I have been told that 256mb RAM is the maximum Ican use with Windows 98SE. Is this true? Ihave 2 x 128 mb and one spare slot and would like to increase if possible

512mb is the accepted maximum without causing problems.

To my understanding oddjobs the maximum RAM is all dependant on you motherboard and not the operating system.

There are some motherboard limits for RAM but for Win98 the maximum Ram - According Microsoft is 512.That doesn't mean it won't run on more but they don't recommend it and you may get instability or no benefit.

I have run 98Se for over a year with 512mb of RAM and no problems.

My system a multiboot Win ME / 98SE / Win2000 I have 640Mb mem with no apparent problems It just so happens I had a spare slot and 128 chip collecting dust... if the system doesn't like it then take it out but most systems will be OK with 512Mb I have an old Dell 333 I have just prepared to sell on with a Mobo limit of 256Mb but works fine on 384Mb but will take out the other 128 before it's sold
