Win7 rejects correct user login passord

  lodger 09:15 17 Mar 15

Trying to save a trip to the dump, I did a factory reset on an old laptop which my kids had used for 4years, and so had seen better days. All went fine until I tried to log back into windows using the new user password. The new password was rejected even though I still get a password 'hint' telling me it's correct.

Safe mode and 'repair' mode do nothing but return me to the login screen. Has anyone else had this problem, or know a way round it? I've used up my few remaining brain cells on this, so any ideas welcome.

I've installed Linux 17.1 on same laptop, no problems with that

Tap F8 at boot to get Safe Mode with Networking and login with Admin Account

Start/Search user accounts

Manage another account

Remove password

Other solutions are possible by making Hirens Boot Disc or UBCD which contain various utilities

Freecycle is more friendly than the dump :-)

Sorry, just re-read. if you can't get in via admin.

Download the zip and extract contents from Hirens first. Right click iso and burn to a blank CD/DVD.
