Win32/Winatch virus - AVG software

  Grayd 00:41 07 Mar 03

AVG anti-virus software has just reported:-

"C:\WINDOWS\DMQC\PATCH.EXE Virus identified Win32/Winatch"

The AVG software says that the "PATCH.EXE" file cannot be removed.

Now what do I do?

what o/s

Grayd, go in in safe mode & delete it from there.

Following on from Stokey's advice and Terrahawk's question, if you're running Windows ME or Windows XP, disable System Restore first. When the file is deleted, run AVG again, if all clear, re-activate System Restore and create a clean restore point.

O/S is XP.

About to try your fix. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for the advice -sorry for the delay in responding.

Try doing a system restore to before this happened before you do anything else. You never know, you may be able to remove it that way.

File deleted.

Clean run of AVG.

New system restore point created.

Thanks for the help, peeps.
