Win32 problem

I am trying to install C&C: The First Decade on my laptop. The main disc (a DVD-ROM) will not auto run, and when I open up My Computer to try to run it from there, I get a message saying "D:\ is not a valid Win32 application". Likewise, when I open the disc, and try to click on setup.exe or autorun.exe, I get the same message (but with D:\setup.exe or D:\autorun.exe instead). The game installs fine on a friends PC. Is there any way to resolve this problem without reinstalling Windows, as my technical support have suggested?

My laptop is an Alienware Area 51 laptop, and easily fulfills the minimum specs, so I don't think that's the problem.
