About every other time I shut down my computer it has started to hang with a blue screen until I switch it off manually. It does not always happen.

The relevant information on the screen appears to be the following,

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Technical Information
STOP: 0x0000000A (0X00000010,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x804EF417)

Can anyone suggest how I can remedy this irritation? System restore does not do it.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL suggests CPU overheating or memory.

click here suggests a driver error, could be graphics card, mouse driver etc.

In fact if you Google the error you will fing that this error could have dozens of causes. It is only by a process of elimination and examination of the stop error that you will find the cause of your particular blue screen.
