What is the point of these Restore Points if they don't work?

I have tried to restore my PC to five different restore points. But each time I get:

Your computer cannot be restored to the (date/time specified).

Am I doing something wrong?

TRy with AV switched off or try in safe mode.

Sorry, Guys. Still no go.

I have tried both methods and have used 5 different restore points. All I get is:

"System Restore Incomplete"

"System cannot be restored to (date and time).

Fortunately, I have a cloned backup of my C: drive on another hard drive.

I will install that and report back.

Thanks for the try.

SANTOS7, No. I wouldn't go anywhere near Norton/Symantic.

All up an running AOK.

Sunday is my normal cleanup/backup day anyway.

I will now clone this installed hard drive to the one that had problems.

You say you have backed up to an external drive, so I assume you must have attached one at some stage. I too had problems restoring 'til I switched off windows system restore from monitoring my external drive. It seems to me windows restore gets in a hissy if there's a drive there one time, and not another (i.e turned off or detached) as it's not sure it knows all the changes that have taken place on the SYSTEM - i.e not just your PC's internal HD.

Look in system restore with you external drive attached and on and see if it's monitoring it, then tell it to stop! Then set a new restore point and test it. Worked for me..., but of course doesn't help with your old restore points I'm afraid
