On booting earlier I was informed my Win XP needed reactivation due to significant hardware changes. 3 weeks ago I installed a Maxtor Sata PCI Card and 2 Sata HDD's and I assume this is whats triggered it but I'm wondering why did it take 3 weeks. Ive not done anything else except added a powered USB hub yesterday.

Your guess is as good as ours.

But it onlytakes a minute to re-activate and anything that stops piracy is worth living with.

From what I know the OS generates a data string from certain hardware elements in your computer. When the hardware has changed enough the data string doesn't match and the OS prompts for reactivation.

Oh yea, I agree about piracy and worth the hassle, just wondered why 3 weeks to kick in and what constitutes significant.

Thanks that sort of explains it.
