Win XP -monitor will not shutdown.

hi brother has xp home when shutting down ,everything but the monitor shuts down ,monitor just hangs ,he runs his comp with all the options never ,eg never turn off hdd ,monitor etc ,but has run like this since day one and never had a problem ,any ideas -hol pol
spec is pentium 4 ,512 ddr ram two hdds ,master 120gb maxtor,slave 80gb ibm ,cd rom drive and msi cdrw ,video card ,and ndvidia graphics card ...

the monitor wont standby when the when the computer is shutdown yeah?

only thing i could find was for win2000 click here

any screensavers running? and any errors listed in event viewer?

is the monitor listed in device manager? try uninstalling it,restart the computer and windows will reinstall the driver again.also try the same for graphics card drivers.

check all cables.

checked event viewer the following errors are listed
service control manager event 7000,7031
cd rom 7-system
applications-warnings -event 4354,
event system 40609,application error 1000-monitor still will not shut down ,please help -hol pol....

only thing i could find for xp was click here

try running sfc /scannow to see if it maybe has something to do with the id 1000 error or failing that borrow another monitor and try it if you can,test yours on another system etc.
