win xp home edition wont shut down

the problem im having is when iv been online for a while i have bt broadband i go in to disconnect it the screens in the tool bar dont go off and it seems to crash the pc and i have to reboot it is there a fix for this

yes there is but I do not have the ms number for it but you can type xp home shutdown prob into google and get plenty of help.

Can you say what the problem is again please. Are you trying to shut down windows, or disable the broadband connection?

The conections tray icon stay put even tho u click disconect? i had this i think it was something to do with the BT help that was loaded with BT broadband i uninstalled it and it has been ok since(touch wood).
