win 98se sticks in standby

i have just thrown together a machine for the kids out of old parts with win 98se operating system however when the machine goes into standby it intermitently sticks with no response using keyboard or mouse any thoughts on how to resolve this problem would be appreciated

have already looked through power managment

Spec 933mhz p3 256meg ram 60gig hd nvidia mx440 64mb graphics card latest drivers installed creative 128pci sound card

The Hard Dive as gone to sleep. Go into Contol Panel\Power Management set drive to never power down

i went to power managment on several occasions and just didn't see it
