hi all
i would like to install a password on my comp
at startup to stop anyone else from gaining access to my computer( win 98se)

It will have to be a BIOS password; Win98 passwords can be bypassed by presing the escape key.

When starting the PC, you should see a message like "press del to enter setup" and within the BIOS you will have an option to set a password. But don't forget it - they are hard to bypass.

There was a piece in last months PCA mag about this and heres what it said :

Select start shut down/restart in MSDOS mode.
At the C:\Windows prompt,type ren
then press enter.
Now when your pc is turned on all they will get is an error message at the C:\ prompt thinking the pc is broke,you can log in by typing xyz and pressing enter.To reverse this restart in MSDOS mode again and type ren press enter and reboot.
