Win 98SE not shutting down completely.

Basically, when you select shut off, Win 98 stops at the "Windows is now shutting down" screen, and doesn't shut off.

I know this has been asked before on this Forum, but a search gives three results , all of which are (or appear to be ) dead links.

Can anyone point me to an appropriate thread? Thanks.

Do a search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base site. This must just about be the most discussed and problematical area of Windows 98 and can have literally hundreds of causes. When I had 98, in most cases when this happened I was able to correct matters by defragging and running Norton Utilities to check for broken links. At very least try disabling fast shutdown (you'll find this in the performance options) and give SFC (Start>Run>SFC) a whirl.
