I am running two operating systems Win 98 and Win 2000 on Dell laptop. Suddenly Win 98 will not load. Blue screen only. However Win 2000 Loads O.K. Both systems are required for different apps and have run perfectly side by side. Have not changed or upgraded anything recently. Any idea's
Captain.

Unfamilar with multi-boot, but can you run scanreg /restore on the W98 bit? In other words can you select W98 and THEN do the F8 routine?

Diemmess,
Not sure if this will work as W98 will not load, but will try and let you know. Thanks.
Captain.

Diemmess, Tried your idea, no joy. Any other thoughts.
Captain.

This is perhaps useless advice, but you don't say if you were able to reach the F8 menu?

If you were able to do that, you could try 'Safe Mode' and see what happens.

Other than that as I understand things, your computer won't let you do a fresh installation of Win98 while 2K exists! (Seems to be considered a lower form of life.)

You might be able to "Repair" 98 by installing over the top, but I only found myself in a worse mess once, when trying that.

Hopefully some wiser person can be more helpful.

Normally when I boot up I have a choice of which O/S to use.
Can access F8 Menu but W98 will not load even in safe mode.
Will try repair by re-installation.
Thanks again, Captain.

Getting desperate now!

If you can reach the menu with F8, have you tried "Command Prompt only" and then typed - scanreg /restore.

This is a last hope, before reinstallation which (I'm told) will not be allowed if 2K is already there, see my last posting.
