not always, it sometimes says windows did not load properly last time choose safe mode, it then gives the message it is now safe to turn off etc, i believe my son had this prob or very similar some time back and someone kindly gave me a step by step series of dos prompts which eventually got machne to run chdsk which solved it at the time, ( cant find that now either in my postings or the print out) he now appears to be in the same boat again and says has been happening on and off for last few weeks but now becoming a permanent issue almost.

Keep pressing F8 as Computer Starts. Then from List choose command prompt. When it gets to C:\ type

SCANREG /RESTORE choose an old date before the problem to restore with arrow key and enter

my thanks woodchip but vogs link already covers that

Yes missed that one. The best way is as I have typed above as most times it does not work with Crt. I am typing this on a 98se comp. My preferred OS. though I have two XP's

Plus if he as a 98se CD you could load over the top this should get it going but does not always correct faults

  johnnyrocker 23:45 19 Sep 2006

no cd's available at all sorry.
