Hi,

A mate has been trying to upgrade his PC from Windows 98 to Windows ME as he has bought an MP3 player that requires ME.
He had trouble with a BSOD, so I had a look and have had no luck.

When the Win ME disc is inserted a message comes up which says something along the lines of "This is a newer version of windows. Do you want to install this on your computer ?".
When Yes is clicked it takes a second or two and then the BSOD appears with the following error message :

A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C029726C in VXD VWIN32(05)+00000BF4. The current application will be terminated.
* Press and key to terminate the current application
* Press CTRL+ALT+DEL again to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applications.
Press any key to continue.

I have closed down all running programs without any success.
I have run Norton SystemWorks 2004 which found over 100 problems and fixed them. Still no success.
I have tried the MS Knowledgebase without success.

Anyone got any ideas ?
TIA, xerty.

PC Bug Doctor ?!?

But I have already run Norton SystemWorks 2004 which cleared over 100 problems.

Will this free utility clear up others ?

A little apprehensive downloading something I have never heard of before.

Anyone know anything about this utility ?

Have you disabled AntiVirus

Have a look through click here

If you are using NVidias NView then make sure it is switched off before running the Me disc.

Woodchip - Antivrus is disabled.

gudgulf - Looks promising. Hope that there is an nVidia card present - will check soon. Though I did stop all processes.
