Win 98 start up problems

  wednesday 13 20:52 14 May 05

When I start up my PC normally, before I log in, the screen goes blank and appears to freeze, as when I start it in safe mode, it starts fine but on't load any programs. I was going to update it to Xp home but am having second thoughts.

Is it the graphics card or another problem? If the problem is too serious is it worth buying a new tower for just under £200 as it would be replacing a back up PC?

How do you format win 98?

Is it possible to have 98 and Xp installed on it at the same time?

Yes but someone else will have to explain the details of that only done one at a time myself.
To formatt you need a 98 statup floppy or you can do it straight from the windows disk if you set the bios to boot from CD Rom first then put the disk in and reboot.

If you are still unable to start Windows 98 in Safe mode, run the Windows Registry Checker (Scanreg.exe) tool as there may be a problem with the system registry. To start Windows Registry Checker, restart your computer, press and hold CTRL, choose Command Prompt Only, type scanreg, and then press ENTER.
