Win 98 se shut down problems

  tom0123 10:46 01 Jul 04

I have just reinstalled Win 98se to a machine which is something I have done quite a few times in the past. However,on this occasion I cannot get it to shut down. All that happens is the Windows splash appears informing me that the computer is shutting down, and thats it.
I tried the help files and drawn a blank.
Is there anyone out there who can help.
