Win 95 HDD will not boot

Win 95 PC will not boot from HDD appears to freeze after PCI devices shown on POST screen.
Assume this means corrupt boot / dos files on root of C: drive.

HDD is detected in BIOS

Can boot from Win 98 floppy and see directories on HDD.

How do I get system files back on root of HDD without reformat / reinstalling 95?

I should know how to do this but I think those memory cells have died, All help appreciated.

Thanks that has jogged the memory cells, I think I may have been misusing the sys command and not getting the system files transfered fro A:\ to C:
Can't get at the machine until tomorrow will tr again then.

Sys command would not work untill I changed into the command directory on the c: drive.

Then transfered system files to route of c: from the floppy, now windows boots OK from the HDD.
