Win 2000 RJ45 configuration

I am trying to connect 2 PCs using an RJ45 cable, both PCs have a network adapter. I am unable to make a connection between them, I thought it was just a case of plugging in the cable at both ends and it would be picked up and installed - not the case. Can anyone tell me how I go about configuring the 2 machines.

i suspect you are using a 'straight through' when you may possibly need a crossover?

click here it may help you.

Basically what you need to do is a) make sure each computer has a unique name b) create a shared folder c)use a crossover cable
