Win 2000 and Mozilla firefox

I've installed Win 2000 (Pro) with SP2 - Internet explorer 5 on it and can't seem to be able to get it to update to I.E.6 including the SP4. I've tried installing what appears to be an SP4 + I.E.6 update via a download from another pc but the pc with Win 2000 on it doesn't seem top want to install it. Do I need to upgrade the I.E.5 encryption pack as well?
I was wondering therefore if it's possible to install and use firefox as a browser instead to get round being stuck in I.E.5 as it's limiting my online access - big time.

Even the latest Firefox should work in 2000 click here

SP4 here; click here

IE6 inc SP1 here; click here

Though I would still use Firefox even when 2000 is fully patched.
