Will "dismounting" a partition volume affect all the other partitions on the same drive?

Just trying to chkdsk /r my (D:) volume for bad sectors in CMD but this scary message rolled out that it can only do the check if "this volume is dismounted first"...and it asks me do I wanna go ahead, Y/N but I'm concerned that it'll merge the 2 partitions (C: and D:) together...or do something do (C:) since both of them are parts of 1 physical HDD...What will "dismounting" do exactly if you perform it on 1 of the partitions of the hard drive, not the actual HDD volume? Thanks you all kindly.

Checkdisk cannot run on a disk that is in use so it will be dismounted so it can be checked.
