I want to add an old ata 33mhz (or 66mhz) hardrive to one of my existing 2 IDE cables as either a master or slave so I can have access to old documents.

Will this slow the performance by making my ata 100mhz hdd run at the slower 33mhz/66mhz ?

If this is the case would I be better off adding the older hdd to the DVDRW IDE cable.

Will the old hdd affect the speed of the DVDRW ?

No, you will be fine and both drives will run at their stated speed. It used to be the case with older systems that all drives would run at the speed of the slowest drive on the channel but with modern IDE controllers and 80 strand IDE cable this no longer applies.

Thankyou Djohn - much appreciated.
