Just bought a laptop which my wife is going to take on holiday to Oz. It's wireless enabled. How does the HotSpot system work - ie, does she need to subscribe to 'a deal', are they free, how to connect - any info for a WiFi virgin would be welcome.

It all depends on where you are.

Some Hotspots are found near Starbuck's coffee shops, Hotels and Airports.

Hotspot cards can be purchased but can be expensive. They can last a day or a week or longer. It depends on who you purchase them from.

Thanks Peter. I'm thinking of while she is at airports en route and in Oz. Do you know if these cards are local or worldwide and/or where they can be found?

Google for Free WiFi Hotspots, and name the areas you are going to, you will then be able to see/print a list of hotspots.

So what happens, does the laptop connect automatically to the nearest/strongest signal? Like I said, WiFi virgin!
