Wi-Fi Stupid Question

Hi Gang, I have a very basic question for those in the know, we are having two new computers with wireless cards inside and external D-Link router. Can anyone tell us this, the adsl router is used for the internet but has it got anything to do with networking the two machines together. Told you it was a stupid question !

Yes it does because computers are networked via the router. With "wired" connections it is a Network Switch in addition to a router. For "wireless" connections, it is the Wireless Access Point through which all communications to the wireless network adapters are handled.

There is no *DIRECT* connection between the networked computers when using a router, everything goes via the router - internet access, file sharing and printer sharing.
