When I setup my Netgear dg834g the security wizard advised me to choose WEP but now I have been advised to use WPA but in setup I have a choise of WPA-PSK or WPA-802.1x. Please could someone advise me which one to use

The different choices are different levels of security - I think, with WEP perhaps the most secure.
Don't worry unduly as it's unlikely anyone can intercept your wifi if it's secured, and I imagine you can change the security setup later if you wish.
Maybe the Networking Forum is the best place for this thread.

WPA-PSK is the most secure of the three.

Read somewhere on this web site a while ago that WEP was neither use nor ornament and to go over to WPA-PSK as soon as possible.

WEP is more widely supported
WPA is way more secure

WEP keys can be broken in less than 10 seconds with software easily available off the net.

WPA -PSK is what you need as long as your equipment will support it.
