Why is Java not enabled on my PC?

Hi all,

I have just reinstalled Win XP Pro with a disk that contains SP1 as well as the op sys. I seem to remember that this disk did not install Java onto the PC and it would appear that I am without it as several websites do not operate correctly (Particularly with "Ticker" type content)

Any ideas as to where? Why? HOW?

Many thanks
