Why is it taking 7 hours and counting to defrag.

Started at 1.09pm today and still going. I have an Fujitsu Seimens Amilo li 1818 running on vista, 160gig HD, 2MB Ram.

There can be many reasons why defrag takes a long time,your hdd may be almost full,there could be lots of temp/junk files that need cleaning out before you defrag.The more files on the drive the longer it takes,you didnt say what you use to defrag some apps take longer than others to do the same job,personally i use this and find it very good and faster than windows defrag that i used before click here its also free thats another bonus.

Also activity near a machine can set it to stop because vibrations have been known to mimic a mouse movement.
Best time to carry out his type of thing is set it running at bedtime with your cocoa in paw.
and take a look next morning.
