why is is I can connect yet cant surf

Hi everyone, I can conncet to an open node if I am out with my laptop in say Borders or cafe nero. Yet even if I do get connected I still can not surf the net. Can anyone tell me why?

You need to tell IE or Firefox haow to connect, usually in the tools, options menu...

Hi there STREETWORK-thanks for your message-not quite sure though what it is that you mean. There is no section in IE or Firefox for wireless connections. Can you explain further please.

I think he means in FireFox, Tools > advanced > network > settings. Although I have never used this it looks to be the one.

I tried both suggestions in both IE and Firefox. In firefox there is no tab for advanced that I can see, in IE all it said was connections, Lan, etc but nothing about hardware.

Anyone got any further ideas?
