Why do I have to create new DUN connection

I run Win xp and it's getting to the stage that if I voluntarily break my connection to my ISP or after the 2 hour cut off I can't connect again unless I create a new DUN connection. I would emphasise that the new connection I make is exactly the same as the one that won't work!
I read in a newsgroup one time that Windows sometimes "forgets" DUN settings. Is there any truth in this please, and if so what can I do about it?
Thanks for any response.
