Why did DOS 6.22 Load?

  Ex plorer 13:27 15 Oct 06

I have 9 old Hard Drives which have been put in my junk box over the past year or so.
Some of the Drives are small ranging from 500MB to 6Gig but adequate for my needs and old PCs.
Not to give up on them I ran Win98 and Fdisk and all drives came up with No Fixed Disk this was on my test bed Dell 700MHz PC.
I also downloaded Killdisk and tested them on my every day 18 month old PC and it never found the Hard Drives.
Today I ran the Hard Drives on an old 486 PC I have, and tried to load DOS 6.22 of the 9 drives 6 formatted and loaded DOS 6.22. Why would this be?
