Who's Right Crucial or Siw

After doing a Crucial system scan to upgrade my ram it advised me my maximum memory capacity was 2048mb yet Siw tells me that it's 1024mb.

Who's right? Will the Crucial upgrade work or is it just a gamble?

Thanks in advance. David M

what motherboard do you have?

Do you know what the model of you dekstop or Laptop is?

Back to you question, either way you need to look at the memory inside you desktop or laptop ideally. This is to know how much you want to upgrade to. Say you have x2 512MBs' and you want 2GB then you would buy x2 1GB's and the x2 512MB's would be redundant. if its a laptop then you may only have say x1 256Mb or x1 512MB fitted.

Personally its safer to manually select on crucial website from Brand - Motherboard - Model or Computer - Model.

Maybe you got a dell dimension. That would be a start. post more info.

SIW will tell you what memory you actually have in your system, not the maximum capacity.

That's why SIW represents System Information for Windows.

Cheers Fruit bat.

If that's the case with Siw why is it NOT stating what memory I actually have in my system and states that it is the "maximum system capacity"?

SIW does, at least in my case, (from Memory) state the type and speed of memory installed, how much and how much more RAM (if any) can be added.
