just reported to me.......on a Win 98 PC. Apparently this has happened twice before but "went away". It's staying now, tho. Each bar is about 2cm wide with normal screen in between. Graphics card stated as working normally; display 60kHz, plugnplay driver. Anyone come across this before? Be most grateful for any explanations. Is it a "dying/ dead" screen??

Sound like its dying, but try it on another computer to if the same problem happens.

I had similar problem with a Sony LCD screen, except it was different coloured bars. Started off intermittent, then became permanent.

Don't know what it was, but Sony sorted it for free under warranty within a couple of days.

Do the lines come up on the BIOS screen? If they do you can rule out a software problem.

Next thing to try is plug in another monitor. If the lines still show up on this then it's the graphics card. If not, it's the screen.
