Which virtual cd programme

My boys having knackered several cd's have at last realised i am not going to replace stuff they are not taking care of. However pragmatism is also a good attribute so when a friend explained virtual cd drives to me as a way out it seemed like a good idea.
However having searched there a lot of products out there including free versions.
I dont mind paying for something that a. works and b. is easy for a PC dunderhead like me to use.
The question is which programme fits the bill, and will it cope with the likes of Rome total war and copy protection etc......
Many thanks for any thoughts
Mark
