Which Video Capture format AVI / DV or MPEG ?

I want to transfer my Camcorder tapes to DVD.

I'm using Pinnacle Studio 9SE and comparing it with Intervideos WinDvd Creator 2 Platinum.

I don't want to edit the videos just make them into DVDs !

Which format is best for capture:
MPEG (High Quality DVD )or

Both have a max resolution of 720x576 pixels.

Or doesn't it matter - will the final DVD quality be the same ?

For quality AVI

For compression Mpeg

As the AVI has to be converted to MPEG2 DVD wouldn't there be more of a loss in quality than if you just converted the "MPEG" capture format to MPEG2 DVD ?

I always capture with MPEG2 ;-) and had no problems with quality.

Thank you for your replies.

I have burnt 2 small clips to 2 DVDs.

One was video captured as an AVI and the other was in 'MPEG'.

Comparing them both I would say that the MPEG Capture produced a slightly sharper and brighter final picture than the AVI.
