Which Scanner, advice please

I run a Pentium 3 comp. with XP home. I process a lot of photographs from prints and would like to scan 35mm slides also, my current old HP 5300C scanner will not scan slides and is not that good on prints either. The problem is, testing a scanner before purchase is nigh on impossible except if you buy second hand.
If anyone is using a film scanner at the moment which will meet my needs, and can recommend it, I would be grateful for the info.

Go to click here and check out the 1800U film scanner, now £90. When I bought mine it was £130. It only takes 35mm though but a really good scanner.
