Which Radeon 9550 is the better Gameplayer ?

Looking for a budget graphic card that will play new games such as Doom 3.

The 9550 Radeons are the minimum vga chip for Direct X 9.0 compatibility and have recieved favourable reviews for gaming - good frame rates albeit with the 'eye-candy' advanced features turned off.

I would like to know if 256mb ddr vga ram a much better performer than the 128mb flavour as the prices are virtually the same ?

Also I was wondering if there's much difference between brands in terms of performance ?

Currently looking at:

GeCube 128mb and

His Excalibur 256mb

Alternatively would I be better spending a bit more for say a 9600/9700/9800 Radeon ?

Your knowledge would be much appreciated.

Hmmm, i would go for 256mb if the price is similar think the only diff is the refresh rates and resalution you can have. The 9800 pro/xt is the best bet with ati might cost more but IMO you will get better results.Doom3 is g card expensive in other words the better the card the better the experience, but this is down to cpu and system ram as well, nvidea fx5700xt,5900xt will be my choice just because i like nvidea g cards. But if money is a concern, maybe not we all havent got 200/300£ to spare lol.I think the 9550 is like the fx 5200.
