Which to mute?

Trying to listen to CDs while using the PC.

Have opened up "volume control" gone to properties, selected everything and muted the lot apart from "volume control" and "wave" - in attempt to stop clicking sounds every time I click something, and thus ruining the music!

How do I get rid of the clicks?

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel.

Then select 'sounds' and remove the sound from the event that causes you grief, ie open prog, or mouse click.

As suggested above by Mike, but under sound scheme choose "No sounds."

but annoyingly, although no sound comes from the speakers, a little (but audible) "beep" comes from somewhere deep in the bowels of the PC cabinet!

Never mind.... :-(
